Shepherd Baseball Drops Pair to East Stroudsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Shepherd University (25-19, 11-11 PSAC East) dropped a pair of games to East Stroudsburg (30-12, 16-6 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Thursday. East Stroudsburg gained an 8-2 win in game one and added a 6-5 decision in eight innings in the nightcap.

East Stroudsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one when Troy Davis singled and later scored on a single from Walker Zampella. 

Shepherd tied the game 1-1 in the third behind a run-scoring single from redshirt sophomore third baseman Ryan Fluharty (Burton, W.Va./Morgantown/USC Upstate).

The Warriors scored two runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Cole Serfass hit an RBI-single to key the rally. 

Easton Albert hit a solo homer in the fifth to give East Stroudsburg a 4-1 advantage. 

The Rams plated a run in the fifth when freshman infielder Evan Rosario (Lanham, Md./Jackson-Reed) doubled and scored on an RBI from redshirt junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook). 

The Warriors used a three-hit attack in the sixth to score four runs to cap the scoring.

Albert had a pair of runs to pace the Warriors 

Rosario had a pair of hits and one run to pace the Rams. 

Ryan Dewees (4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 K, 1 BB) (6-2) earned the win. Cole Dymek (2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 5 K, 0 BB) (4 S) earned the save. Sophomore pitcher Henry Ortiz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown/Towson) (3.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (3-1) took the loss. 

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap when redshirt junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Rams scored two runs on two hits and one error in the second to take a 3-0 lead. 

East Stroudsburg took a 4-3 lead in the fourth behind RBI-singles from Serfass and Parker Frey.

Shepherd took a 5-4 lead in the sixth. The scoring was highlighted by a redshirt junior catcher Wyatt Lamb (Asbury, W.Va./Mt. Calvary Christian School (Pa.) run-scoring bunt. 

The Warriors tied the game 5-5 in the seventh when Gabe Gillespie singled and later scored on a Troy Davis single. 

East Stroudsburg took the lead in the eighth when Albert singled and later scored on a double from Connor Reilly.

Zampella had three hits to pace East Stroudsburg.

Fluharty had a pair of hits to lead the Rams. 

Johansel Brito (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R,  2 K, 2 BB) (3-1) earned the win. Redshirt junior pitcher Jesse Specter  (Woolwich Township, N.J./Moorestown/West Chester) (1.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (4-1) took the loss. 

The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
