Shepherd Baseball Splits with Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. – Shepherd University (6-3) split with Concord (4-6) in baseball doubleheader action at Concord on Saturday afternoon. The Rams gained a 14-6 win in the opener and dropped an 11-4 decision in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when redshirt junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) tripled and later scored on a single from redshirt sophomore Infielder Ryan Fluharty (Burton, W.Va./Morgantown/USC Upstate).

Concord took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first behind RBI-singles from Korbin Bostic and Dawson Gragg. 

The Rams took a 3-2 lead in the second behind a two-run double from Pullen.

Atticus Goodson scored on a Nick DiSanti single for the Mountain Lions to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second. 

Shepherd had three RBI-singles in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.

Concord added a run in the bottom of the fourth when Nick DiSanti hit a sacrifice-fly to score Matt DiSanti. 

Pullen walked in the top of the fifth and later scored on a single from Fluharty to give the Rams a 7-4 lead. 

The Mountain Lions added a run in the fifth as Matt DiSanti was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to plate Lucas Cannon. 

The Rams added five runs in the sixth to take a 12-5 lead. The rally was keyed by a two-run single by redshirt sophomore Colin Ahart (Pennsauken, N.J./St. Joseph Academy) and a two-run double by senior first baseman Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II).

Junior infielder Braylon Conner (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/Hagerstown CC) drove in a run and scored another in the seventh to up the lead to 14-5.

The Mountain Lions added a run in the bottom of the frame as pinch hitter Hunter Siper walked and later scored when he stole home.

Pullen went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and drove in two runs to pace the Rams.

Matthew DiSanti went 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI for Concord

Sophomore pitcher Henry Ortiz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown/Towson)  (4.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 6 R, 2 BB, 2 K) (2-0) earned the win. Jonah Adams  (4.0 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K) (0-2) took the loss. 

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap when junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) singled, moved to third on a single from redshirt junior outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton), and later scored on a wild pitch.

Concord plated three runs in the third with a  two-run single by Gragg keying the rally.

The Mountain Lions added eight runs in the fourth to take an 11-1 lead.  Gragg hit a three-run double to key the scoring. 

The Rams plated three runs in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Burgreen went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI to pace the Rams.

Gragg went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and a run scored for Concord.

Freshman pitcher Gavin Miller (Exeter Township, Pa./Exeter Township Senior) (3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 4 R, 3 BB, 3 K) (0-2) took the loss. Jake Robinson  (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K) (1-1) earned the win. 

The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Glenville State for a single game at 3 p.m.
