Haley was an assistant coach with the Shepherd football team in 1997 and from 1999-2010. Haley served as defensive coordinator from 2000-10. The Rams won seven conference titles and made five NCAA II post season appearances over his tenure.. His 2005 defense topped NCAA II schools in pass efficiency defense, while his 2006 squad led the nation in scoring defense and posted a record six shutouts that season. Shepherd's Haley-led defenses topped the WVIAC in rushing defense five times and total defense four times.
