Excelled in football, basketball and baseball, and volunteered as an assistant football coach. Started both ways for the Rams, playing offensive guard and defensive tackle, named Most Outstanding Lineman in the WVIAC in 1934. Played center on the basketball team; performed in the outfield, first base and pitched for the baseball team. Served as a volunteer assistant coach for seven years while teaching in the Harrisburg, PA, area.
