Tucker was a four-year, two-way starter on the Ram football team. A four-year letter winner, he played tackle on both sides of the ball. He was the college's first football player to gain First Team status on the conference's post-season team in 1949. He was a two-time Second Team selection in 1947 and 1948. He also lettered in basketball during the 1947-48 season. Upon graduation, he entered the high school coaching ranks, including stints at Charles Town and Harpers Ferry, where he coached basketball, football and baseball. He had nine consecutive winning football seasons at Harpers Ferry.
