Hall of Fame
Howerton was a standout offensive lineman for the Rams from 1981-84. He helped guide the rams to a 30-9-1 (.763) record and a pair of WVIAC titles in 1982 and 1983. In addition, the 1983 team made the school's first-ever trip to the NAIA Playoffs, where they lost to eventual national champion Carson-Newman in the quarterfinals. Howerton earned First Team WVIAC All-Start honors in 1983 and 1984. He also garnered honorable mention NAIA All-America honors in 1984. Howerton helped anchor an offensive line that set numerous team and individual marks for passing, rushing and scoring.
