Summers was a star infielder for the Shepherd softball team from 1989-91 and also played one year of basketball.  Summers helped lead Shepherd to a 67-42 (.615) record on the diamond.  She hit .383 in her sophomore and senior years and finished her career with a .330 batting average.  She was a first team WVIAC All-Conference selection in 1989 and 1991.  In 1991 Summers led Shepherd to its only WVIAC crown in softball and earned WVIAC Player of the Year honors.  Summers hit 15 triples in '91 to set a new NCAA II single season mark.  Summers' 48 RBIs in 1991 are still a school record, while her 49 hits are second most in a single season at Shepherd.  She was also named to the WVIAC All-Tournament team in 1991.  A standout off the field as well, Summers earned One Valley Bank Senior Scholar-Athlete honors and was selected to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universityies in 1991-92.  She was vice president of Phi Epsilon Kappa Professional fraternity and graduated cum laude in 1992.  Summers has been a physical education teacher for hte past seven years at Myersville Elementary School.  She also coached softball at Frederick High School (MD) for five years, posting a .800 winning percentage.  She received her master's degree in edcuational administration from Hood College in 1999.
