Excelled as a coach and player in football.  Played three years as a quarterback.  Posted a 107-48-4 mark over 15 seasons as a head coach. Built Shepherd into a traditionally strong power in the West Virginia Conference.  Won three conference championships in 1972, 1982, and 1983.  Took the Rams to the first post-season football appearance in 1983.  Voted WVIAC and NAIA District 28 Coach of the Year three times (1972, 1982, 1983).  Most victorious head football coach in the 66-year history of the program.  Elected to the NAIA Hall of Fame in January 1989.
