Excelled as a three-sport athlete, lettering all four years in football, baseball and basketball.  He was a two-way left end as a walk-on candidated in football, a backcourt player for the Ram basketball team and a left fielder on the SC baseball team.  Harry was the president of Theta Sigma Chi from 1937 to 1939, was vice president of his junior class and served as president of his senior class in 1939.  His teaching career lasted 35 years, inclduing 33 at Damascus High School (MD), where he served stints as principal, coach and teacher, including driver's education.  He has been honored at Damascus High School by presiding over the "Harry V. Stipe Scholar Athlete Award," given anually to the most deserving male and female with at least a 3.0 GPA over all four years.
