Bennett was an outstanding linebacker for the Rams from 1989-92. The 6'0", 225 pound Bennett led the defense in tackles with a total of 491 during his four year career. Brooks was honored for his superior play by the WVIAC when he was named WVIAC Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team All Conference in 1991 and 1992. Additionally, Bennett earned All-America status in '91 and '92, including First Team honors in 1992. Bennett's defensive coach, Jeff Castillo, said "Brooks possessed an uncanny knack for recognizing plays and played as hard as anyone I've ever coached. He was an outstanding leader who demanded excellence from himself and his teammates. Bennett was always his best in big games." Current head football coach, Monte Cater, said "Brooks was one of the most intelligent and fiercest players I have ever coached." Mel Filler, Bennett's coach at Calvert Hall High School, said "Brooks was a dedicated, loyal and responsible student. Since returning to help us coach at Calvert Hall, Brooks has exhibited that same intensity, intelligence and loyalty, which have provided a tremendous role model for youngsters."
