Eleanor Oliver Stipe

Stipe was a four-year member of the Ram women's basketball team (1936-40).  Played in all 35 games during her career as the team compiled a 25-10 record, including an undefeated 6-0-1, 1936-37 season. Served as co-captain of the 1938-39 team and captain of the 1939-40 team.  Served as interim head coach of the team in the absence of Coach Majorie Bartlett.  She was a rated basketball official as a college student and she officiated local high school games and conducted refereeing clinics for the National Referee Association.  She was very active off the court as well, by serving on the college athletic's council from 1938-40, being vice president of her senior class (1939-40), organizing a dormitory social group for women called the "Teltrabs," which later became the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, and was credited with saving Coach John Newcome and several students from drowning in the Potomac River.  Upon graduation, she was a successful teacher before retiring in 1975.
