Marks was a standout on the Shepherd swimming team from 1970-72.  Marks broke four Ram swimming records as a swimmer and diver.  The records include the medley relay team (backstroke), 200-yard individual backstroke, required diving event and optional diving event.  He was rated by Coach Erwin Fieger as the top diver during his coaching reign at Shepherd.  Upon leaving Shepherd in the spring o 1972 Marks entered the "world of work" and was employed by C&P Telephone Co.  Marks' competitive nature would serve him well as he steadily climbed the ladder to his present administrative position with Bell Atlantic.  With encouragement from his wife Sue, Marks returned to Shepherd to complete his BA degree in 1996 at age 46.  Tom Neal, college roommate, had this to say about Marks, "Greg Marks was a great swimmer and diver, but beyond that he was a truly outstanding person."  Greg and his wife Sue have three married children: Kara, Heather and Forrest.
