Koening was a standout baseball player for the Rams from 1994-97.  He was one of the top players on the 1997 team that led all NCAA II schools in winning percentage with a 39-7 (.848) record.  A two-time First Team WVIAC All-Conference selection, Koenig also earned First Team All-North Atlantic REgion and First Team North Atlantic All-Tournament honors.  He set single season records in 1997 for walks (33) total sacrifices (14), sacrifice hits (13), and times reached base (103).  Also a standout in the classroom, Koenig became the first baseball player in Shepherd and WVIAC history, to achieve GTE Academic All-American status. Over his career the Rams compiled a 104-53 (.667) mark and he set Rams career records for walks (98) and sacrifices (33).  Koenig went on to play two years of professional baseball with the Cook County Cheetahs in Chicago.
